There’s been a bit going on in terms of our communication strategy recently, and I thought it might be worth giving a quick update on what’s happening. As a bonus, I’ll frame it by talking about how it fits with the idea of aggregate, filter & connect. Our objective in writing this blog is to communicate some of the ideas that we have about innovation to people that actually practice innovation.

The ideas come from a broad (and deep) range of sources. John and I actively read and contribute to the academic literature on innovation, particularly in the area of innovation networks. So we read a lot of books and journal articles. We also read non-academic books relating to innovation. And I regularly read 150+ blogs and twitter feeds. We aggregate all of this information to generate the ideas that we talk about on the blog, in our teaching, and in our writing.

After months of befuddled consideration, I think I’ve finally figured out a use for twitter too, so I now have an active twitter feed. I’m using this primarily to filter – so when I run across articles relating to innovation and the general topics that we discuss here that will be of interest to the people that read this blog, I’ll post links to those on twitter.

Twitter will mainly be for things that are interesting, but to which I don’t have a lot to add. When I have an idea that I want to synthesise, however, that is what this blog is for – to connect. Connecting can take many different forms: ideas can connect with ideas, academic theories can connect with practical examples, ideas can connect up with people, and so on. Through it all, you can connect with John & I (and each other) through comments or re-tweets, or whatever strikes your fancy.

Finally, we’ve both been invited to blog at Fast Thinking’s new ThinkTank website. The posts there will mostly be things that we originally post here, and it gives us a chance to connect with the wider Australian innovation community. John’s blog is here, and mine is here.

So that’s what is going on. If you have any questions you would like us to address, or points of your own to make, please post a comment or send an email. We’d love to hear from you!
